Horsea Island is located off the north shore of Portsmouth Harbour and has a long association with the
Royal Navy. It was also the base for an outstation of the Experimental Diving Unit (EDU) and essentially
JIM’s home. Because of the large amount of space available we stored most of our equipment there,
although security was always a concern. Life support experiments were undertaken at this site over a period
of about five years.
DMS was based at Swanmore, a rural location with a lake. Here, amongst other things, the repair of coastal
lights was carried out. We frequently used their on-site tank to continue with the life support experiments.
