After HMS Reclaim was ‘paid off’ circa 1980 the Royal Navy at Portsmouth Naval Base
hired MV (Motor Vessel) Seaforth Clansman, a diving support and salvage vessel built in 1977, from
Seaforth Maritime. This was a temporary measure while HMS Challenger, the replacement for HMS Reclaim,
was being constructed.
A great deal of our time was spent on board Seaforth Clansman to the extent that it seemed, at times,
like a second home! Although it was quite a large vessel our equipment still managed to take up a
substantial amount of the space available, as you can see from the images below which were taken in
the first half of the 1980s.
