After HMS Reclaim was ‘paid off’ circa 1980 the Royal Navy at Portsmouth Naval Base
hired MV (Motor Vessel) Seaforth Clansman, a diving support and salvage vessel built in 1977, from
Seaforth Maritime. This was a temporary measure while HMS Challenger, the replacement for HMS Reclaim,
was being constructed.
A great deal of our time was spent on board Seaforth Clansman to the extent that it often seemed
like a second home. Although it was quite a large vessel our equipment still took up a
substantial amount of the available space, as you can see from the pictures.
